About the Author
James D. Gwartney holds the Gus A. Stavros Eminent Scholar Chair at Florida State University, where he directs the Stavros Center for the Advancement of Free Enterprise and Economic Education. His writings have been widely published in both professional journals and popular media. He is a co-author of COMMON SENSE ECONOMICS: WHAT EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT WEALTH AND PROSPERITY (St. Martin's Press, 2016), a primer on economics and personal finance. Dr. Gwartney's current research focuses on the measurement and determination of factors that influence cross-country differences in income levels and growth rates. In this regard he is the co-author (with Robert Lawson and Joshua Hall) of the annual report, Economic Freedom of the World, which provides information on the institutions and policies of 157 countries. This data set, published by a worldwide network of institutes in 80 countries, is widely used by scholars investigating topics ranging from economic growth to peaceful relations among nations. Dr. Gwartney served as Chief Economist of the Joint Economic Committee of the U.S. Congress during 1999-2000. In 2004, he was the recipient of the Adam Smith Award of the Association of Private Enterprise Education for his contribution to the advancement of free market ideals. He is a past President of the Southern Economic Association and the Association for Private Enterprise Education. He earned his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Washington.

Richard L. Stroup is Professor Emeritus of economics at Montana State University and Professor Emeritus of economics at North Carolina State University. His Ph.D. is from the University of Washington. From 1982 to 1984 he served as director of the Office of Policy Analysis at the U.S. Department of the Interior. Stroup has published and lectured on topics such as global warming, land use regulation, archaeology, and about needed environmental policy improvements. His research helped to develop the approach known as free market environmentalism. He is a co-author of COMMON SENSE ECONOMICS: WHAT EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT WEALTH AND PROSPERITY (St. Martin's Press, 2016). His book ECONOMICS: WHAT EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT ECONOMICS AND THE ENVIRONMENT (Washington: Cato Institute, 2003) was sponsored by the Property and Environment Research Center, of which he is a co-founder.

Russell S. Sobel earned his Ph.D. in economics from Florida State University in 1994. He has published more than 200 books and articles, and has received national recognition for his works on entrepreneurship and FEMA reform. Dr. Sobel serves on the editorial board for three academic journals, and on the advisory board for four university centers. He has won numerous awards for both his teaching and his research. He regularly teaches courses in both principles of economics and public economics and gives lectures at economic education outreach programs. Dr. Sobel is a Professor of Economics and Entrepreneurship at The Citadel.

David A. Macpherson is the E.M. Stevens Distinguished Professor of Economics and Economics Department Chair at Trinity University. Previously, he was Director of the Pepper Institute on Aging and Public Policy and the Rod and Hope Brim Eminent Scholar of Economics at Florida State University, where he received two university-wide awards for teaching excellence. His teaching areas include principles of microeconomics, money and banking, econometrics, and labor economics. Dr. Macpherson is an applied economist whose research focuses on real estate, pensions, discrimination, industry deregulation, labor unions, and the minimum wage. He has published more than 60 articles in leading economics and real estate journals, including Review of Economic and Statistics, Journal of Labor Economics, Journal of Human Resources, Industrial and Labor Relations Review, Journal of Real Estate Economics and Finance. His research has been funded by a variety of entities including the National Science Foundation, Florida Legislature, and the National Association of Realtors. He is co-author of the undergraduate labor economics text, CONTEMPORARY LABOR ECONOMICS, 11E as well as the annual UNION MEMBERSHIP AND EARNINGS DATA BOOK: COMPLIATIONS FROM THE CURRENT POPULATION SURVEY. He is included in WHO'S WHO IN ECONOMICS, 4E which includes the 1,200 most frequently cited economists. Dr. Macpherson received his undergraduate degree and Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University.

However the content itself is not very good. The format of the book takes some mathematical ...

Disappointing content. The examples are quite old, but I expected that given the date of publication. However the content itself is not very good. The format of the book takes some mathematical concept and tries to wrap it around a spaceflight idea. However there is very little insight provided to the student. The format is also overly verbose and hard to read. I'm a practicing aerospace engineer and teacher and I could come up with problems that are better worded and better illustrate both the mathematics and the spaceflight concepts.

Good presentation. Cleanly printed, great High School level intro to outer space mathematics.

Includes intro to binary numbers, translation from units of distance (feet, meters, miles, AUs, light years, par secs), star brightness, distance , geometry, statistics, fuel, . .

May be a few more subjects too, not much here for orbital, nor material science, but some of the subjects are bright and pretty in the text. Great intro and something for person's appetite in outer space mathematics.

Not what I expected

It was kind of entertaining, but it's not helpful if you are planing on applying to be a real special agent. It's written for someone who has already passed the tests to be an agent and I guess the FBI already has their own orientation books and courses. Also, the information is quit outdated. Don't recommend it.

Finally!!!!

I've followed a pagan path for 7 years. I've blown through various internet "101" courses left and right. I reached a point on my path that I wanted to start getting ready to teach my children when they were old enough. I wanted to spare them the hours upon hours of taking notes from dozens of books, transferring to note cards, then constructing them into a format that was condusive to learning. Guess what....that's what this book is!!!! By the way Mr. Batty...where were you more than a year ago when I started that "little" project?!?!?!? If you remember back to high school textbooks...this is the textbook that would have been in a Wicca/Witchcraft 101 class. The format is unbelievable!! It has study questions at the end of each section and even a comprehensive "Final Exam". It's designed for a teacher as well as a student of the craft. I've started a magical group and we'll use this as a textbook in our education course!! I've ordered dozens upon dozens of books off of amazon.com and other sites. I've never left a review for any of them. But I couldn't sit back without giving this one the recognition it deserves. This book is new and I actually think I'm the first reviewer. Now it's easy to teach Witchcraft

For years, I have taught magick and witchcraft to a few students at a time - your typical master/apprentice style of passing down information. However, I have always been frustrated by the amount of information in my head and my complete lack of organization. There is SO much information out there about Wicca and magick, and the longer I practiced and the more I read, the more blank books I filled with spells, rituals, and correspondences, the more disorganized a teacher I became.
Finally, I found this book - with actual lesson plans, study questions and homework, exams, practical advice to teachers and students, suggested reading at the end of each lesson - the lessons are laid out so well that any teacher, with a minimal amount of preparation, can teach without worrying that the necessary information will not get passed on.
I hope that Miles Batty writes more books in the same way... this book covers what new witches need to know so well, that I have my fingers crossed that he'll write other books to help me teach the more advanced students - although this particular book of his DOES cover enough material in such a way that students can progress on their own afterwards.
Thank you Miles Batty for writing such a WONDERFUL book - it's a tool that every teaching witch should have.

There are several Gods/Goddesses that are categorized. incorrectly such as stating that Parvati is a Warrior God instead of a Goddess and claiming that Kali sprang forth from HIS brow. Parvati is a Goddess who is an aspect of Durga and Kali sprang forth from her (Durga) brow fully formed to fight the demons. There were several other inaccuracies when it came to pantheons but for the most part it is a good basic book that can really help you outline a beginner class.

SO SAD..Seems to me that Nicky Epstein (who at her best is my very favorite designer) has totally blown this volume...not one imaginative design maybe except for one I thought she had used before. I really do not understand how this lady can do 5 star work and 0 star work...I feel that this book is insulting to her fans. I own about everything she has written and the variation is enormous. Just a warning to others....

About the Author
Franz Alexander was director of the Department of Psychiatry at Mt. Sinai Hospital, Los Angeles, and professor of psychiatry at the University of Southern California. Easy read, well written.

A seminal work - a must read for a dynamically oriented therapist who values knowing the origin and development of their orientation. There is a reason this book is so regularly cited, it was far beyond its time and implies many ideas that are just starting to be researched or written about in the past couple decades. This highlights the turning point from proper Freudian analysis to the blooming of the diverse contemporary dynamic theories.
