Daniel Bloch, Ph.D., is a visiting professor at Marquette University. He has a Masters and Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry as well as Chemistry. Bloch has taught organic chemistry for more than 20 years in various locations within the University of Wisconsin school system.

Organic chemistry for fun

I bought this book and another Organic chemistry for dummies book because I had never learned this stuff in college. This book is way easier to understand than the dummies book. I have given up on that book all together and have continued to read this one. The way this book is written seems to make sense to me, but there are some difficult things that I have to re-read.

AMAZING FOR A SMALL BOOK!!!

I had the first version of this text before upgrading to this new one. This book is amazing in the amount of material that it covers in such a small package. As a teach yourself guide this book is very good and it is about ten to twenty percent cheaper than a textbook. I am a huge fan of organic chemistry and biochemistry and have had two textbooks and currently own the Klein "Organic Chemistry." The combination of this book along with the Klein textbook is, in my opinion, a very good combo for self instruction. This book, "Organic Chemistry Demystified" is very helpful for self study as the primary textbook also - in my opinion.

Better explained elsewhere?

This book does not simplify Organic Chemistry at all. Its every bit as complex as a regular textbook. The only reason to buy this one instead is that its cheaper. I studied Organic Chemistry for Health Sciences at university. This book is more complex than that course. I'm hoping the Dummies books are better explained than this one. If you need an advanced book on Organic chemistry, this may be for you. It wasn't for me.
