A comparison
By I buy too much from amazon
Alright med students of the world let me tell you about 1 of the billions of study books out there. This is a really good pathology book so far. I like how there are words that follow the diseases, and what I mean by that is that it is not just an outline book like Goljian or First Aid. There are also review questions that are nice but I don't think they quite match up with Robbins question book but none-the-less any question is better than no question.

So why and and how you should use this book:
-This is a great book to review or read ahead for class instead of trying to read Big Robbins or Baby Robbins (unless you have loads of time, want to be a pathologist or masochist).
-As I mentioned before there are more words than First aid and Goljian which is helpful to learn from instead of just reviewing.
-You know First Aid is going to have errors in it and this book is no exception but BRS has a better track record of having good detailed information that is correct.
-This book does not have a lot of labs and graphs to reference so don't expect to use this like you could Goljian for Pathophysiology.

One of the Essentials for ANY Medical Students

As a second year med student, there are a few books I would call 'essential' for boards preparation and great references for classes. BRS Physiology, Clinical Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple, First Aid and BRS Pathology are, hands down, the four top books I would consider essential when studying for boards step I. This book came fast and on time, and was appropriately packaged. At first, I thought that the one layer of bubble packaging, with no plastic wrap over the book, was questionable. But it appeared to keep the desired “new book” look and feel, and there was no travel shipping damage to the covers or spines. Though this book is still a “thicker” type of review book, I believe it adequately hits all of the necessities you need to know for pathology – at least to pass class and standardized board exams! The author does extremely well describing and breaking down different pathologies, and helps explain differences in certain conditions which sound the same. In comparison to the 1,400 physiology textbook required for class, this BRS review by Schnieder hits the most important topics – clinical pearls, if you will – that are hidden within the thousands of pages of text. As medical students, I feel like we know remembering every single term and bit of information from day one of school is nearly impossible. But, this review book helps instill the most essential information you need to remember. The formatting is easy to follow, and the images appropriately build on what is described in text. The review questions following each section are great to test your ability to recall the information you just learned. Even though this book does not make it any easier to remember which –oma type pathology you have, it does help break everything down! And, if you put in enough time, I have no doubt you can fly through the pathology on your exams. It is DEFINITELY worth the purchase.

Comparison with Rapid Review Pathology

Initially I was quite happy with the book. It seemed like a much more easy read compared to Rapid Review Pathology (4e), who was much more concise in my opinion. However, after annotating and stuff, I noticed that there are discrepancies between some of the facts in the book and RR, so to be sure, I double-checked on Robbins and the information in RR is much more accurate. I will edit this comment again when I find time to proof the discrepancies, but at the moment just want to warn fellow medical/bio friends. I haven't searched on whether this book has an errata yet, but I think despite the fact that RR seems quite daunting at times, it is really a much better resource. (think of it this way, there're people who could read Robbins from cover to cover, so in comparison RR is nothing, really)

Wow, this is the only MRCP text I've read which addresses the new station 5 properly...which is a big thumbs up as its worth about 1/3 total marks (and the bit my friends seem to fail)!! Its also the text I want to keep hold of for future reference after exam is over. Amazon review I have purchased almost every book available to study for this blasted exam and I can easilly say that this is the best so far. The only book that properly covers station 5. well worth the money! Amazon review

About the Author
Dustin DiPerna is an author, teacher, and group facilitator. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University and a Master of Liberal Arts degree in Religion from Harvard University. He is co-founder Bright Alliance and Synergy Forum.

Dustin has been a student of Integral Theory for the past decade working directly with American philosopher Ken Wilber. He practices in the spiritual lineages of Mahamudra and Dzogchen, under the guidance of Daniel P. Brown and Rahob Tulku Rinpoche.��

A helpful outline for our future

DiPerna's Streams of Wisdom makes an important contribution to religious studies and to our collective understanding of spirituality and awakening. The author does a good job of interpreting and synthesizing the work of Ken Wilber and Dan Brown, and brings much-needed clarity to several key distinctions and ideas from Integral Theory and research on human development. In particular, the way in which he unpacks the difference between state-stages and structure-stages is an important contribution, and could be very helpful to both meditators and scholars.

In addition to the conceptual clarity the book offers, it is important to note that this is not just an intellectual offering. It is clear that the underlying intention of the book is not simply philosophical or intellectual but practical and social. DiPerna is trying to help more people make progress in their efforts to understand and serve the world in a complex and crucial time, and I appreciate his ability to take sophisticated and esoteric content and translate it in a way that many people can access and digest. I hope that young people especially will find this book and use it as an entry point into deeper and broader pathways for their own growth and awakening.

A Masterful Summation and Practical Guide for Applied Integral Theory

As my heading suggests, Streams of Wisdom represents an extraordinarily comprehensive overview of "integral" knowledge as its unfolded over the last three decades or more. Nestled in a readily accessible format similar to that of a practitioner's field manual, DiPerna's content is a living testament to an emerging practicality inherent in the integral model's application. Consequently, and for those of us possessing a prior background and working familiarity with the book's subject matter, such a concise presentation of the integral framework attests to a completion of the stage-setting process and heralds exciting new prospects for the emerging future. Bravo Dustin, bravo!!

Very welcome and highly recommended.

Never in contemporary scholarship has religion and spirituality been so fully articulated. Premodern, modern, postmodern and integral constructions of knowing married with gross, subtle, causal, witness and non dual vantage points of the knower married with ordinary and extraordinary states of consciousness in various wisdom traditions are just some of the major concerns within DiPerna's expansive and profound vision of religion and spirituality. As in many marriages, there are plenty of issues here to chew over with your friends, including locating all errors made in its publication, such as omg "spirutality" on the front cover of my copy. In a world full of all sorts of heartless religious and heartless secular reductionisms in relation to religion and spirituality, this text is very welcome and highly recommended.

When Papa's stomach begins to rumble and growl, "Loud as a banging drum," Leo wakes up crying, and the king of the jungle faces his angry wife and sheepishly takes responsibility. The text is simple and descriptive and the use of repetition and rhythmic language make the story perfect for sharing aloud. The colorful cartoon artwork is packed with humorous details. Papa's facial expressions, which range from pompous to grumpy to embarrassed, are a hoot. An energetic, lighthearted tale that will have children roaring with laughter.

Good story.

I'm a fan of JR and, with the exception of a few books, have loved her BDB series. This book is the second in The Bourbon King series. I liked the first one better. It was a little faster paced but this second book has twists and turns I wasnt expecting. Ms Ward isn't always great at writing female characters but has done a pretty good job with this series. JR excels at writing male characters and this book proves that once again.

As with most of Ms Ward's books her characters are what draw you in. The storyline is well developed as are the people. One of my favorite characters is momma. You'll have to read the book to understand.

In the BDB series each book highlights a certain specific character. In this series you're continually exposed to each of the major players lives with each book. This type of writing makes the storyline the center and allows you to see how each, in this case, family member, is effected by what's happening. I like seeing each character's life progress throughout the series, assuming that will continue, and discovering what their part is in the whole picture as well as their backstory continuing to unfold. Love Lane and Lizzie.

However, I've read a lot of reviews concerning people's disappointment that each story doesn't end with an HEA for the character that's highlighted in the book. If you're expecting this series to be the Kentucky version of the BDB you WILL be disappointed. That's absolutely NOT what this series is. This series is a family saga that's going to continue with each new book. I wouldn't say it's a soap opera as others have described it but it definitely is a sweeping saga right now centered around a specific event and the trainwreck that event leaves for others to clean up. This series doesn't have a lot of hot steamy sex. Instead it allows you to imagine what's going on. It's not really a romance but has a definite romantic tone. I don't know about you but I'm glad JR is writing something so different than the other books she's written.

The plot centers around the death of the patriarch of the family who was an evil bastard. At first it's thought of as a suicide but then turns into something else entirely. The saga looks at each family member, their character pros and cons and to some degree how the father effected their lives and shaped who they have become as adults. In one part Lane talks about how, if he had been the brother kidnapped, that Edward would have come and gotten Lane himself and how Lane didn't have it in him to do the same for Edward. That confession was really movin, honest and a real insight to the character of Lane. This is where JR excels. Lane is a good guy but like all of us he's flawed and JR shows that. I find seeing a whole person much more interesting than seeing only the hero. I'm also really happy to see that not everyone is 20 years old ( as an aging women lol.) I like experiencing characters of all ages. A book seems much more mature, adult and real when there is a wide range of people in different spaces of life, but that's me.

JR is a very good writer. In the romance genre which the BDB is in, she stands out as her books don't come across as so formula being banged out every other month like a James Patterson. Her writing in this series excels as well. I'm looking forward to future books in the series.

Trouble in Paradise

The Angel’s Share starts out where book 1 ( The Bourbon Kings ) left off. The Bradford family’s patriarch has destroyed the the company coffers, and then jumped off a bridge, leaving the estate in shambles.
Youngest son, Lane, works to keep Easterly from going bankrupt, while oldest son, Edward, finds solace in the bottom of a bottle.
While there are some memorable scenes in this book, such as Lane’s accidental fall from the very same bridge where his dad met his death, I thought this story lacked the substance and suspense of book 1.
J.R. Ward does a commendable job of portraying the depth of betrayal Edward feels for his father’s horrifying transgressions, but it’s not enough to save this storyline from dragging.
Enjoyable read.

Not as frenetic as book one and really enjoyed the developing story

“The angels had to have their share, however, as was their right and their due.”

After The Bourbon Kings my head was a mess trying to piece together who was related to who, who was interconnected and who had slept with who etc. So much was packed into that book but it is now that I appreciate it. This series is literally like Dallas on speed and after the many many layers of foundations were laid in The Bourbon Kings, The Angel’s Share was not so frenetic and so made this a compelling, easy read. This book is literally the fallout from The Bourbon Kings, the ramifications and yet even more conspiracy theories, arrests and potential bankruptcy.

“A reversal of fortune is a social disease with no inoculation. Nobody came.”

Thanks to the death of William Baldwine, the Baldwine legacy is hanging on by a thread. The family finances are in dire straits and with loans being called in Lane has to fight to keep their current predicament out of the press all the while trying to find money he just doesn’t have. Calling in favours left right and centre, his forensic friend is going through the financials trying to find where the money has gone and it is no easy feat. It is a painstakingly long task and one that Lane just doesn’t have the time for but is a necessary evil. It seems though William Baldwine is still casting a black cloud from beyond the grave as more secrets are revealed and a lot more “other stuff” comes out of the woodwork, but my lips are sealed.

“Don’t try to own problems or faults that aren’t yours. It’s not a good long-term strategy.”

Lane and Lizzie really cement themselves as a couple throughout this book and they are each other’s anchor in very stormy seas, but their love is so strong that these two could weather anything. Lane really steps up to the plate in this book as the family are depending on him, something that he never saw coming and deep down never knew he wanted.

“…And fight to keep the company going. And fight to keep the house and the land of his ancestors. And fight for his family. He was a warrior. He had learned that the hard way. He had earned that title the hard way.”

Edward’s story just gets more and more upsetting and this is one Baldwine that I desperately want to know more about. His story is heart breaking and as his story unfolds you cannot help but become more and more invested. His past is full of evil and dark and has stripped him of everything he once had, all at the hands of his father. Once the heir to the Baldwine legacy, Edward feels incredibly alone and unworthy of anyone and everything. All he sees are his scars, not the selfless human being underneath and it seems his acts of selflessness are not yet finished.

“How codependent of you…But I’ve be tortured for eight days by people who were going to kill me, and in my case, that is not hyperbole. If you think there is anything that you can do to get me attention, you are delusional.”

Gin Baldwine, the prodigal daughter, I couldn’t stand her in the first book. She was a typical “princess” who thought the world owed her a living and treated her “servants” like slaves and something she scraped off the bottom of her shoe. Gin finally grows up in The Angel’s Share, it seems that she finally has the nous to do something for herself even though you can see it only bringing more trouble in the long run. Her daughter however is intriguing and I cannot wait to see how she fits into this story going forward. Overall this was an addictive read and one that I actually couldn’t put down. JR Ward really captivates the reader with this Southern soap opera and a family that is so screwed up that you cannot believe it is real. But, that is the funny thing, I bet this has happened and does happen all the time. With wealth people lose themselves, how much is enough? People lose their identities only being measured by their bank accounts and social standing and that constant pressure of being better than Tom, Dick or Harry leads to dubious decisions and all scruples and morals being thrown out of the window. This is what JR Ward brings to the table, effortlessly. I can see this as a TV programme and as much I looked forward to the Alexis and Krystle fights I can see the Baldwine’s giving them a run for their money. Never mind who shot JR, who killed William Baldwine?

cant recommend these enough

I think this series of titles is fantastic. A fun romp down memory lane. Wow, was Raw sketchy back in the early to mid-90s. I still have a lot of these gems on random tapes / dvds, and its all out there on Youtube and the WWE site, so its a fun ride-along as you riff through the book. Even if not its surely going to bring back some memories, some laughs and groans. And there was good wrestling stuff buried in there too! I look forward to further editions on the Raw shows, and the other stuff this group puts out on Coliseum videos and other wrestling-related fodder. And the price is right on the Kindle for all of this. Great stuff and i raise the glass in a toast.

Great concept, funny guys.

This is such a great concept--reviewing every RAW!

The author's are very funny and it makes for a great trip down Nostalgia Avenue. They provide great humor in addition to some great tidbits. I found it was a great resource to iron out some of my old memories and getting to know the plethora of jobbers was a hoot.

My only problem, and indeed it is MY problem, is that whenever the authors (they take turns reviewing months) don't like or care of a certain wrestler, they'll certainly let us know. And know again. And again. And remind us again. And again. And did I mention that they'll mention how much they hate a guy?

Don't get me wrong, that's of course their right as the authors. They're doing all the watching after all. But it gets tedious to read how much they hate Crush, or Yokozuna, or Tatanka, etc. especially when I personally don't agree with them. At least on some of their takes. Ordinarily, I would be fine reading a differing opinion. But since a handful of guys they don't like keep cropping up almost every week (IRS, especially), I stars to make for a less fun read. In fact, I bought the 1993 and did enjoy it. I borrowed the 1994 version from Prime and had to return it a quarter of the way through because of the continuing rants against the same handful of people. Reading about how much they didn't like guys became just as painful as what they felt watching the same guys they hated. But while they certainly got their frustration through, it quickly stopped being a fun read FOR ME.

Most people probably won't have the same problem as me, and most people probably will agree with them. But I've always had a soft spot for these lovable midcarders like Men on a Mission and IRS so it just became a chore, even though I was getting a great kick out of the concept, and largely, the rest of what they were doing here.

Still, I quite enjoyed 1993 and maybe someday with a better frame of mind I can go back to 1994 and the rest. The authors are really funny and they really did a heck of a job considering the daunting task.

Great stuff, although I definitely think you guys are a bit harsh on Yokozuna. Sure he wasn't much in the work rate department, but he carried the heel side of the card throughout the year in the main events.

A lucid, beautiful novel with a sincere and sarcastic tone

Solal is the son of the chief rabbi of Cephalonia. He is on his way to become a highly recognised diplomat for the United Nations. He then falls for a sweet and beautiful French catholic girl, just on the eve of WWII. They get together, passionate, ignorant of their families' disapprovals. But the growing antisemitism affects Solal's love and behaviour, and he becomes sarcastic, irritable and guilty, in spite of Aurore's efforts to keep their love alive.This is written in a beautiful, original style by a wonderful and sincere author who deserve international recognition. His tone gets you to the insights of human brain, which he analyzes with an incredible lucidity. Read it !
