However, none of these outbursts is loud enough to disturb the baby, and the disappointed lion finds himself growing very hungry. When Papa's stomach begins to rumble and growl, "Loud as a banging drum," Leo wakes up crying, and the king of the jungle faces his angry wife and sheepishly takes responsibility. The text is simple and descriptive and the use of repetition and rhythmic language make the story perfect for sharing aloud. The colorful cartoon artwork is packed with humorous details. Papa's facial expressions, which range from pompous to grumpy to embarrassed, are a hoot. An energetic, lighthearted tale that will have children roaring with laughter.
